The Taipei City Government is facing strong objections from the Longshan Temple for its plans to hold the World Religious Expo on Qingming Festival. 萬華舊名「艋舺」，意指獨木舟或獨木舟匯集之處。臺北市政府觀傳局規劃在清明節時舉辦「世界宗教博覽會」，表面上是讓民眾透過宗教來學習互相尊重與包容，實際上卻是市長問鼎閣揆的招數。龍山寺拒絕租借佛像給市政府，並透過發表「艋舺獨立宣言」，警示市政府在各項施政上必須以人民的需求為優先。承辦活動陷入膠著，觀傳局迫不得已委託過氣的職棒球星──王暉參與協商，身為昔日王牌捕手的他，是否能克服所有難題？為愛情所苦的義務役士兵──陳皓偉與被幽靈纏身的計程車司機──戴仍兆，也被迫捲入這場「宗教戰爭」，三位主角的甘草人生會因這場風波而出現轉機嗎？本書結合臺北市的場景，從多重視角呈現出最真實的臺灣宮廟文化&社會觀察。
Wanhua was known as "Bangka" in the olden days, a term that can refer to canoes or a place where canoes come together. The Department of Information and Tourism, under the Taipei City Government, is planning to hold the World Religious Expo on Qingming Festival. At first glance, it is simply an educational event that teaches people to respect and accept one another through the juxtaposition of different religions. However, the event is actually a maneuver of the mayor in his bid to become the Premier of Taiwan. In view of the agenda behind the event, the Longshan Temple refused to loan out their Buddha statues to the city government. The temple even issued The Bangka Declaration of Independence as a warning to the city government, which serves to remind the authorities that they should always prioritize the needs of the people in its governance of Taipei City. Seeing that the event organization has come to a deadlock, the Department of Information and Tourism has no choice but to engage the help of Wang Hui, a professional baseball player long past his prime, in the negotiations with the temple personnel. Can the former star catcher tackle all the challenges thrown his way? Chen Hao-Wei, a lovelorn soldier serving his military service, and Tai Jeng-Chao, a taxi driver haunted by apparitions, also become embroiled in this "battle of religions ". Will the unremarkable lives of the three protagonists take a dramatic turn as a result of this conflict? Many familiar scenes of Taipei City are featured in this book, which utilizes multiple perspectives to present the Taiwanese temple culture and observations of the Taiwanese society in all their authenticity.
