Yen Minju, born in Taiwan (both a Taiwanese and Swiss citizen), has published numerous essays, critiques, reportages and literary prose in different newspapers and magazines. She also serves as a columnist for Opinion Channel of Common Wealth Magazine. Her five books in Chinese are collected by the National Library, Bern, Switzerland. Her latest novel is being translated into German as “Im Zeichen der Jadeblüte” and is scheduled to be published in fall 2020.

第五十屆【吳濁流文學獎】小說正獎；2019法蘭克福書展臺灣館【臺灣：故事之島書區】入選；2019瓜達拉哈拉書展臺灣館【臺灣精選區】入選。 有關台灣史的小說，一般從有較多文字史料的大航海時代寫起，作者從中選出三個女人，代表「我們」： 十七世紀的海盜平姑、明治時期台北榮町的藝旦玉英，以及日治末年的童養媳阿琴。她將這三個時空與背景各異的女性故事互相交織，濃縮了千千萬萬個女人的一生。
“We, a Woman” depicts three Chinese women of varied lives in different historical periods. Ping Gu, the pirate, commands a fleet of piracy which robs as well as trades through the Taiwan Strait. Her deeds of brutality and determination dominate the transportation route of precious goods in the East China Waters at the end of the eighteenth century. She is a sly cunning troublemaker in the eyes of the Qin Dynasty. Yu Ying, the Taiwanese geisha, sold by her parents due to poverty, is in love with her client. A Lang, born into a renowned well-off family, is an undercover Taiwanese Communist who unknowingly affects Yu Ying’s life. Possibly due to his espionage A Lang disappears abruptly. A Qin, a simple woman, adopted into Family Zhang as future daughter-in-law, emigrates from the tiny offshore island to the South of Taiwan with her disagreeable husband. She encounters her previous lover accidentally in the harbor city. A Qin loses four of her six children and lives unhappily through her whole life. This novel applies a structure of staggering time and space of all happenings. The intention pays off for the plots are well staged and the roads leading to inspiration delicately paved. This technique enables readers to view the scenarios in parallel like on a dynamic triptych.
