1989年莎拉颱風襲台前夕，林素淨搭車南下屏東，尋找當年從她生命中突然消失的B。穿插回憶，在現實與過去之間來回，如同南下列車窗外一幕幕快速後退的風景：慘澹的童年生活、青澀早夭的戀情、黨外活動的震撼、自我認同定位的游移……。 父親林柏仲自福建移民來台，落腳屏東萬丹，林素淨是家中最小的女兒，備受父親疼愛，卻也被生母凌虐。她常被一些街坊鄰居大人小孩嘲笑是「外省豬仔」，她的周遭不斷有人主動「不見了」，國中導師、酒家哥哥、書攤老闆…… 二二八事件後，移民再次大量湧入台灣，面臨生存難題，內心的不滿像火種，引爆了美麗島事件，作者以小說手法描繪1957─1989年三十年間，死亡與失蹤如影隨形的台灣社會，面對自然災害的無情、政權的高壓管理，底層人民噤聲壓抑，仍舊勇敢扎根的韌性。全書台語和華語交錯，真實呈現語言的混雜與變遷，訴說台灣人共同的悲歡離合。
On the eve of Typhoon Sarah hit the Taiwan in 1989, Lin Sujing drove south to Pingtung, looking for B who suddenly disappeared from her life that year. Interspersed with memories, back and forth between reality and the past are like scenes of fast-retreating scenery outside the window of the south car: the miserable childhood life, the youthful love affair, the shock of extra-party activities, the wandering of self-identity and positioning... His father, Lin Bozhong, immigrated to Taiwan from Fujian and settled in Pingtung Wandan. Lin Sujing is the youngest daughter in the family. She is often ridiculed by some neighbors, adults and children as "a piglet from another province". Around her, people continue to take the initiative to "miss", middle school teacher, restaurant brother, book stall owner... After the February 28th Incident, immigrants flocked to Taiwan again and faced survival problems. Their inner dissatisfaction was like fire, which detonated the Formosa Island Incident. The author uses a novel technique to describe the Taiwanese society where deaths and disappearances went hand in hand during the 30 years from 1957 to 1989. In the face of the ruthless natural disasters and the high-pressure management of the regime, the people at the bottom remained silent and suppressed, and still bravely rooted in resilience. Taiwanese and Chinese are intertwined throughout the book, truly presenting the mixture and changes of language, telling the joys and sorrows common to Taiwanese.
