Many people complain about the way their life has gone and they feel like there is nothing they can do to change it. If you had the chance to re-write your life's story, would you do it? Who would you become through your second chance? Suffering from the tragic loss of his girlfriend in a car accident, Jing-Cheng He accidentally joins "The Dark Fern," a mysterious, underground, crime organization, where he becomes a "scriptwriter." The Dark Fern is also the name of an izakaya, a Japanese style bar-restaurant, situated in a simple lane in Taipei's Ximending District. As long as the izakaya's clients commit their entire fortune to The Dark Fern, the scriptwriter can tailor their lives to their requirements and give them the new life that they search for or need. Clients whose lives have not been going well, such as an injured athlete, a teacher who has been bullied since childhood, or an actor who has not been able to achieve his dreams, come to The Dark Fern Izakaya to take hold of the chance of being "re-cast," mid-life, in a play where the script has been written just for them. "A fundamental change can be easily induced as long as a slight external cause is borne. This is simply what we need to do," or so says the head of The Dark Fern, who is also the "director" of all of the re-written scripts. When night comes, Jing-Cheng works as a "scriptwriter" for the crime group, but he, by chance, comes across the culprit of the tragic car accident that took his girlfriend's life. In that moment, he realizes that the director of The Dark Fern must be up to something…
