In A.D. 2041, a meteor landed in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Its impact changed the face of Earth as humanity knew it. Within a decade, the sky was sealed by an impenetrable wall of steel-colored clouds. Perpetual snowfall rendered all continents white. Civilizations perished, and plants turned ashy grey. “Sunlight” faded from human memory, becoming tales of bygone ages, and after 5 centuries it is now worshipped as a religion — by humans who have never witnessed it. Two enigmatic entities emerged with the advent of the sunless era: A breed of strange, alien monsters that roam the endless expanse of snowclad continents, and mysterious snow spirits that may be harnessed by humans to fight the monsters. These humans are called the Shade Riders — those with the ability to harness snow spirits to power up hand-crafted boards and silver-engraved blades. The Riders make up the only mobile force on snow-covered terrains.
