According to history, the Rebellion of Huang Chao had caused eight millions deaths and the blood shed ran for three thousand miles. Twenty years after the Rebellion, the Alliance of Cleansing was still using “Kill the Huang Bandits and cleanse the world” as their slogan to incite people to kill and rob. In the first part of the story, Detective Cheng Yiao investigated a mass murder case happened outside the city gate and tried to find a missing kid. He found out that the whole thing was a tragedy caused by the Alliance of Cleansing, and the kid was the real target because he had accused people as Huang Bandits without any evidence. The kid was tortured by an old lady who hated kids for good reasons. Cheng Yiao rescued the kid and arrested the old lady, but the revenging murderer was killed by mobs who refused to accept that they had been incited by the Alliance of Cleansing. In the second part of the story, Cheng Yiao, who was not a powerful kung fu master, asked his old master for help to pursue the Alliance of Cleansing. The Alliance had kidnapped several people for treasure hunting. The treasure they were after had been buried in the most dangerous place in the country: The Bandit Camp of No Code. They met with a lot of peculiar characters along the way. In the end, they got the bad guys and served the justice, barely. “ ‘Serving the justice’ and ‘saving the people’ are just slogans. They won’t touch your heart. You want to do good in this chaotic time? All you need is a simpler reason. ”

Chi Jian Ban has translated over sixty English fantasy novels into Chinese over the years, including Simon R. Green’s “Nightside” series, Peter V. Brett’s “Demon Cycle” series and Kevin Hearne’s “Iron Druid” series. In 2019, his first Wuxia series “The Book of Heterodoxy” was published. Since then he has been concentrated on the genre. “The Peculiar Case of Human Hunting” is the latest independent story setting in the same background. He is doing all he can to revive the Wuxia genre.
