「無法接觸海，就無法理解海。」1950年代，台灣仍是戒嚴時期，六個年輕人嚮往自由航行、熱切想認識這個世界，藉由一張來自美國的遊艇比賽傳單，他們選擇以無動力的風力帆船踏上征途，歷經114天的湧與浪，從基隆港遠航至美國舊金山，寫下航海史上重要的一頁。而50多年後的此刻，這艘「自由中國號」在重重困難之下，再度回到基隆。
"If you can't touch the sea, you can't understand the sea." In the 1950s, when Taiwan was still under martial law, six young men yearned for the freedom of sailing and were eager to learn more about the world. With a flyer from a yacht race in the United States, they chose to embark on a journey with a powerless wind-powered sailboat. Now, more than 50 years later, the "The Free China Junk" has returned to Keelung under a lot of difficulties.
