After Passing Away is a documentary ten years in the making about a madman’s decade-long dream to build a worthy ancestral home for his family. Chronicling not only a man and his family’s relationship, the film also explores the transformation of Taiwanese families through the 2000s and 2010s.
作品簡介
一直沒有自己房子的楊三二拒絕進入房貸遊戲，2004年，五十歲的他決定自學蓋一棟可以留存百年的全卡榫木造建築，一棟永續環保的家屋。 沒有收入的楊三二蓋屋的18年來，全靠著老婆開餐廳支撐家計，因而成為鄉里八卦的對象。這棟一直蓋不完的房子，讓他們在經濟上更加拮据。等不到爸爸的百年家屋落成，兩個女兒各自有了家庭，離開家鄉。曾經擁有破碎童年的楊三二，真能靠著這棟建築完整他對於家的想像嗎？
At the age of 50, unemployed Yang San-eii is passionate about constructing a Japanese wood joinery house from scratch. This mammoth project, entirely dependent on the income from his wife’s restaurant, makes Yang the subject of gossip around town. AFTER PASSING AWAY exhibits the housing price inflation and unanimous modern buildings while questioning the dialectics of "home" and "house." The meaning of home is physically constructed and deconstructed simultaneously with the departure of Yang’s daughters as they begin to have their own families. Will Yang be able to complete his dream house and maintain his family?
