故事從一個熱愛表演的男子開始，他的名字是可韓，工作是全職臨時演員，現領 500 酬勞的臨演工作從事已三年。他每天必做的事項有：搜尋試鏡機會、投履歷，運氣好的話才會接到試鏡通知。為了夢想，他與夥伴決定一闖中國影視產業，西進步上未知的旅程。其他片中的演員被攝者－南部北上的女孩與龍哥，他們的經歷亦反映了性別與年齡在影視業界的限制，除了要面對業界選角刻版印象的挑戰，也要能平衡家庭與工作上的經濟難題。
"The Extra's Journey" is a Taiwanese story of struggles among dreams, reality and families. Taiwanese boy Ke-Han hears from other extra actors that China has more job opportunities. So, to make his acting career go further, he begins to plan his trip to China to explore the larger-scale film industry in China.Although two places all speak Chinese, still it's a big challenge for young actors like him to find acting opportunities. With different language accents, he starts to realize his shortcomings. But even the work is challenging, he will practice as far as possible to the last moment before his cut.Unexpectedly, the Covid pandemic hit the film industry worldwide. How should he survive under the impact?

本片記錄了三位帶著不同性別、年紀與背景的台灣臨時演員，他們從大堆頭的人群當中一步步往專業演員的方向向上努力，在中文世界中奔走，掙扎著現實與理想的平衡。本片記錄了台灣與中國兩地之間近年來影視產業的消長，試著從基層演員的角度來感受產業裡的各種困境。本片歷經6年攝製，導演伍心瑜以平行的視角、幽默的節奏，記錄這些個本著小人物精神，勇往向前的逐夢者。
This documentary records Taiwanese Extra Actors of different gender, generation and background. For them, the support from their family is the biggest strength and may also be a hindrance. Before touching on the goal and clarifying their own predicament, they are still running around in the industry, struggling with the balance of reality and ideals. Through their journeys, we see their struggle and challenges under cultural differences, the strength of little people and the difficulty for women in the industry, but they keep moving forward. Director Hsin-Yu Wu spends 6 years recording the journey of these extra actors with a humorous and relaxing rhythm.
