This book tells the story of a boy attempting to walk from his home to a nearby park wearing an Eye Mask. Through a first-person narrative, readers experience the challenges he faces as he navigates his surroundings using only his sense of touch. The author skillfully uses layout design, typography, and various symbols to represent sounds, smells, breezes, and collisions—conveying the boy’s sensory perceptions and emotional reactions as he makes his way through the world.

CHAO LUN TSAI Born in Taiwan, Chao Lun Tsai is a former cartoon animator and art director, currently working as a comic artist, illustrator, and picture book creator. He enjoys traveling, photography, and watching films, and his greatest wish is to spend leisurely days with his family, wandering freely without a fixed itinerary or destination. He believes that when one observes closely, the world becomes full of fascinating details worth savoring—providing endless inspiration and energy for future works. Constantly challenging himself, Tsai explores a wide range of artistic styles and continues to push his creative boundaries while remaining a dedicated lifelong learner.
I Can’t See invites young readers to engage in a simulated experience of visual impairment, offering a powerful, immersive journey that reveals the everyday challenges faced by the visually impaired. The book aims to evoke empathy by showing the fear and unease of being unable to see, while helping readers recognize and appreciate the privilege of sight. By gaining greater awareness of their own advantages, readers are encouraged to become more socially conscious, develop compassion for marginalized groups such as the visually impaired, and take meaningful action to support others. The book ultimately fosters gratitude and a deeper appreciation for the ability to perceive the world through vision.
