JULAI|Comic Comic and illustration artist. The hand never quite keeps up with the mind—drawn to stories that are either oddly whimsical or quietly melancholic. Graduated from SCAD in Sequential Art, with a mission to one day pet every cat in the world. Gao Bing-Han|Original Lawyer. Born in 1935 in Heze, Shandong, and named one of China's Top 10 Most Inspiring People in 2012. His life stands as a witness to a unique chapter in cross-strait history—one that spans from war and bloodshed, through decades of hostility and separation, to eventual reunion and family visits. At age 13, he endured a thousand-mile journey on foot through wartime chaos. In later years, he personally carried out the final wishes of over a hundred overseas Chinese who passed away far from home, delivering their ashes back to their families. This is the story the book hopes to share with readers: the extraordinary journey of a young boy from Shandong, and the legacy of compassion he left behind.

In 1948, during the Chinese Civil War, in a time of chaos, people were swept along by the tides of war. After crossing the great rivers and seas, there remained the deep yearning and hope for reunion. Gao Bing-Han, a 13-year-old child in China, carries the love and hopes of his mother and a rope stained with his father's blood. He sets out alone on a journey of escape, struggling to survive. He’s lucky enough to board a ship heading to the other side of the strait. But he does not know the road back home would be endlessly long. In Taiwan, he puts down roots, meeting kind-hearted people. They support each other through hardships. But this young boy still holds on to his memories, waiting for the day he can return home. This is a story about refugees and the homesickness that seeps into their lives.
