空間設計師華生推開畫中「藍屋子」的獅頭門環,轉瞬穿越到藝伎與政商掮客雲集的淡水港埠及大稻埕,與前女友露西一同走進了幾代人興建旅館的生命史。
Watson, an indoor designer, pushes the lion-shape door knock in the blue house on a painting, finding himself transferred to an old era when Tamsui and Twatutia were crowded with geishas, businessmen and politicians. He and his ex-girlfriend, Lucy, travel into the history of a hotel over generations.

空間設計師華生,無意地從藝品行帶回了一幅內有一幢藍屋子的畫作,洋式風格鑲嵌著一副東方獅頭門環,閃著異國想像的光澤,吸引他走近、撫觸……竟由此涉入了一段異質空間的歷程,並牽引出對於物件的執迷慾望。同一時,他分別多年的女友露西從日本宮崎回來,到淡水港埠邊的旅館工作,為了替華生搜尋過去海洋年代的物品交易故事,走進了幾代人興建旅館的生命史。
Watson, an indoor designer, accidentally obtained an antique painting, said to be found in the Netherlands. On the painting was a blue house with an eastern-style lion-shape door knocker. Watson found himself entering the painted house by touching the door knocker one night, and located inside a house full of exotic antiques. He brought the items found in the painting back to the reality, and started a business of selling them. In the meantime, Watson’s ex-girlfriend, Lucy, returned. Watson asked Lucy, who was working in a hotel with centuries of history, to help him find out the mysteries of the painting and the items he took from it. Through out her learning about the hotel, Lucy switched from a recorder of the history, into a writer of her own story. On the other hand, Watson sold the door knocker and was not able to enter the painting again. In search of the secret of the door knocker, Watson visited the Netherlands, which once ruled Taiwan. The history of the hotel led Lucy to Japan, which once colonized Taiwan. Through objects that traveled through time, stories of three countries across the sea coined together again.
1963年生,淡大中文系畢,德州大學聖安東尼奧分校雙語言文化研究所進修。高中開始小說創作,大學起屢獲文學獎項。1993年以《鹽田兒女》獲聯合報長篇小說獎,並改拍為公共電視開台戲劇,隨後1998年出版的第二部《橄欖樹》獲中興文藝獎,2014年完成此系列的第三部《星星都在說話》,歷時二十年,主題各異、人物相繫的作品系列反映了不同世代所處的社會環境及其人生處境。
Tsai Suh-Fen was born in 1963 and studied in Taiwan and Texas. She started writing while still in high school and began winning awards while at university. CHILDREN OF THE SALTPANS won the 1993 Unitas Award for Best Novel and was adapted for television. Her 1998 follow-up, THE OLIVE TREE, won the Chung Hsing Award for Literature and Art and in 2014 she completed her Taiwan ‘trilogy’ with ALL THE STARS ARE TALKING. Other books include SISTERS, TAIPEI STATION and A CANDLELIT DINNER, for which she was selected as one of 2009 Asia Weekly’s Ten Best Chinese writers.
