After missing a teacher recruitment drive 25 years ago, Ringo (Tien Hsiao-Ping) thought that she would never get the chance to teach. All this changed on that fateful day when Hsiao-Ping received a call from her high school buddy, who told her that her school has a vacancy for a substitute teacher for their special class. In this way, Ringo began her journey as a special education teacher. The work of special education teachers includes feeding students, assisting their movement, helping them go to the bathroom, teaching students to drink water, chasing students who are dashing around, finding employment opportunities for the students, and generally helping students with different aspects of daily life. During her teaching stint, Ringo encountered many interesting students, such as ""The Announcer"" Hsiao Yun, who did not utter a word in class but went down the school's correspondence list and called every number one by one after school. There was also A-Guo who, after graduating, loved to stuff his face with food at work because ""it's a free all-you-can-eat buffet"". Another of her students, A-De, greeted Ringo in his birthday suit when she visited his home as part of the school's orientation program for new students. Last but not least, there was A-Qing, who greeted Ringo by declaring ""My dad is a gangster"" the first time they met. Snippets of life in a special education class and engaging dialogue between Ringo and her students come together to form tales that bring forth both tears and laughter. Through these stories, one can see the sense of contentment radiating from these students with special needs in spite of their circumstances. Furthermore, these stories will also allow readers to better understand and embrace people with disabilities and, at the same time, empathize with and appreciate the innocence of every child.
