本書為作者耗費超過二十年蒐集資料，並藉由十多年間的實地調查後整理而成的台灣航空重要著作。全書以百年來台灣島內島外飛行場／機場的發展歷史與脈絡為主軸，介紹其歷經的演變，以及殘存的各種遺構，是研究台灣航空發展及台灣軍事遺跡、戰爭遺產不可缺少的重要經典。
This book is the result of over twenty years of data collection and more than a decade of on-site field research by the author. It stands as a major work on the history of aviation in Taiwan. Centered on the development and evolution of airfields and airports across and beyond the island over the past century, the book traces their transformations and highlights surviving structures and remnants. It is an essential classic for the study of Taiwan's aviation history, military heritage, and wartime relics.

台北市人，國立台灣大學大氣科學系畢業，美國加州大學洛杉磯分校(UCLA)大氣科學博士，現為國立台灣師範大學地理學系教授，2019至2021年間曾借調擔任文化部國家鐵道博物館籌備處主任（首任）。

Chih-Wen Hung
Born in Taipei, he holds a bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Sciences from National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is currently a Professor in the Department of Geography at National Taiwan Normal University. From 2019 to 2021, he was seconded to serve as the inaugural Director of the Preparatory Office for the National Railway Museum under the Ministry of Culture.

全書的章節呈現上，以時間為主要切分點，在日本統治後期較多飛行場大量增設時，才以日本海軍與陸軍兩種體系加以區分。書中內容包含台灣航空發展黎明期的飛行場與著陸場、民航肇始期的島內飛行場，以及大東亞戰爭爆發前、戰爭間與整個二戰末期所興建的台灣島內日本陸軍與海軍飛行場，最後則為二戰後興建的台灣島內機場，以及本次增補版新增的離島機場歷史。 全書除了有詳盡的文字說明外，更以超過一千六百張的圖片，包含各時代的相關地圖、航照與現地調查照片記錄，詳細呈現出台灣島內飛行場/機場百年來的發展歷程。書中首度曝光許多興建於二戰時期的飛行場重要軍事設施遺跡調查成果，是台灣在戰爭遺跡的文化資產研究上，非常重要的參考著作。
