This is a book regarding the English Reformation of King Henry VIII. The author chooses this title not only because she wants to discuss the religious reform in Henry VIII’s period, but also she wants to make it clear that this reform was the implementation of the King's will. This book tries to answer a key question: how did King Henry achieve his religious reform while he was in want of resources and facing various crises? The clue to the answer lies in the main title of the book - Persuasion and Persecution. What the author wishes in the end to present is not the panorama of the Reformation in Europe, but the route that the Kingdom of England took. This book wants to explore how these historical events decided the path of the Kingdom and how these elements eventually converged to shape the United Kingdom and the British Empire afterwards.
