As the Age of Exploration dawned, pirates prepared to seize their chance. In 17th-century Taiwan, Dutch colonists, pirates, and local groups like the Xingang and Madou communities clashed with hidden motives. Amid the chaos, Chinese laborer Lee Laide must navigate between rival powers to survive. Lee Laide, an ancestor of the Lee family, was himself a pirate. Legend tells that the notorious pirate Lin Daoqian buried treasure in the "Black Treasure Cave." Four centuries later, descendants Lee Minbang and Yujie decode plaques, altars, couplets, and genealogy records to uncover clues to the treasure’s location. The novel blends fiction and historical fact, spanning two timelines. It also features author Wei-Min Chen’s chemistry expertise—like how oyster shells are used to make lime and its reactions with water—adding scientific depth to this gripping adventure.

作品簡介

The final installment of Wei-Min Chen’s Taiwan Trilogy, following The Eagle of Caoshan and The Bandit in the Woods, delivers his most gripping tale yet. In 17th-century Taiwan, as the Age of Exploration begins, pirates, Dutch colonists, and local powers like Xingang and Madou all harbor secret agendas. Amid this chaos, Chinese laborer Lee Laide must navigate the treacherous waters of political intrigue to survive. Four centuries later, his descendant Lee Minbang returns to Budai after a wall in their ancestral home collapses—revealing a cache of ancient coins and a hidden legacy. As Minbang and his cousin Yujie follow clues in plaques, altars, and genealogical records, they begin unraveling the mystery of the legendary “Black Treasure Cave” and their pirate ancestor’s secrets. Blending fact with fiction, the novel spans two timelines and integrates Chen’s chemistry expertise—exploring how lime is made from oyster shells and its reactions—to enrich this historical adventure.
