This book examines the development of modern Taiwanese bookbinding from the late 19th to 20th centuries. It explores artistic innovations, cultural influences, technological advancements, and the various individuals involved in the craft, reflecting Taiwan's unique historical and political identity through its book design aesthetics and significance.
林素幸 美國俄亥俄州立大學藝術史系博士,現任國立臺南藝術大學藝術史學系教授。研究領域為臺灣藝術史、近現代東亞書籍裝幀史、臺灣宗教與廟宇彩繪藝術、二十世紀中國視覺藝術與日本及西方的交流、近代臺灣與中國水墨畫等。對「美術」與「設計」之間的糾葛,一直保持高度的好奇心。近年因為被兒童純真與無限寬廣的創意吸引,又一頭栽進繪本藝術的研究。其曾為國史館臺灣文獻館策畫「鯤島天光:複訪霧峰林家百年」、國立臺灣文學館策畫「無巧不成書:裝幀易容的旅程」、並與國立臺灣圖書館合作策畫了「面面俱到:近現代書籍裝幀藝術展」,以及擔任臺南市美術館「幻.畫:繪本的奇藝世界」特展的策展人。專著有《豐子愷與開明書店:中國20世紀初的大眾藝術》、《越籬:采青窯20年》等。
Su-Hsing Lin holds a Ph.D. in Art History from The Ohio State University and is currently a professor in the Department of Art History at Tainan National University of the Arts. Her research interests include Taiwanese art history, the history of book design in modern East Asia, temple paintings and religious visual culture in Taiwan, the interactions between twentieth-century Chinese visual art and Japan/the West, and the evolution of ink painting in modern Taiwan and China. Her major publications include Feng Zikai and the Kaiming Book Company: Popular Art in Early 20th-Century China and Across the Fence: 20 Years of Tsai Ching Kiln.
