愛丁堡歷史系碩士，倫敦大學歷史高等研究院博士。天下雜誌《換日線Crossing》專欄「安妮／本初子午線觀察記」、「故事」（Story）網站專欄「安妮的午茶八卦時間」作者。 現為台灣師範大學專案助理教授，曾任德國馬克思·普朗克（Max Planck）歐洲法律史研究中心博士後、中研院法律學研究所博士後研究學者。

Shengyen LU
Shengyen Lu holds an MA in History from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD from the Institute of Historical Research, School of Advanced Study, University of London. She previously held postdoctoral research positions at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History and the Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Academia Sinica. She is currently a Project Assistant Professor at National Taiwan Normal University. She has written the “Observations from the Prime Meridian” column for Crossing and the “Annie’s Afternoon Tea” column for Story.

這是台灣首部由本土作者視角探討男性氣質歷史的著作。書中梳理了西方歷史中不同社會如何對男性施加變動且時常互相矛盾的理想形象，從古代勇士與騎士，到現代所謂的「模範男人」。作者主張，有毒的男子氣概並非天生，而是歷史建構的產物。男性與女性一樣，長期受限於僵化的性別期望。唯有當男女雙方都能擺脫這些繼承自過去的限制，真正的性別平權才能實現。

This is the first book in Taiwan to explore the history of masculinity from the perspective of a local author. It follows how different societies throughout Western history have imposed shifting—and often conflicting—ideals on men, from ancient warriors and chivalric knights to modern-day “model men.” The author argues that toxic masculinity is not inherent, but historically constructed. Like women, men have long been bound by rigid gender expectations. True gender equality can only be achieved when both men and women are free to move beyond these inherited constraints.
